Welcome to
Clare Fonstein's Portfolio
Written work includes published clips from my time reporting at the San Francisco Chronicle and the Houston Chronicle as part of the Hearst Journalism Fellowship. In addition to my fellowship work, are clips from my freelance and internship experience with the Lehigh Valley regional newspaper The Morning Call, contributions to my college newspaper The Brown and White and blog posts from an internship at Lehigh University. Other featured work includes video and photography I have done for various projects. Happy scrolling!
Articles from the San Francisco Chronicle
As part of the Hearst Journalism Fellowship, a rotational program for early-career journalists, I was placed at the San Francisco Chronicle, starting August 2023. I cover insurance, environmental justice and earthquake topics on the paper's climate team. So far, I have tackled enterprise, breaking news and general assignment stories.

Articles from the Houston Chronicle
As part of the Hearst Journalism rotational fellowship, I was placed at the Houston Chronicle where I largely covered breaking news and trending topics from August 2022 through August 2023.
Articles from The Morning Call
I interned at The Morning Call -- the regional newspaper for the Lehigh Valley -- during the summer of 2021, covering general assignment local news. When the internship was up, I was invited to stay as a freelance reporter, so during my senior year I continued to write stories for The Morning Call.
Articles from the The Brown and White
The Brown and White is the student newspaper at Lehigh University. I wrote for the paper all four years of college and it is where I found a passion for journalism. I quickly became an editor, starting out in the lifestyle section, then moving to the news section and finishing off my senior year as editor in chief.
